Straw is an agricultural byproduct consisting of the dry stalks of cereal plants after the grain and chaff have been removed. Examples of cereal plants – barley, oats, rice, rye and wheat. Straw can make up about half of the yield of cereal crops. In many agricultural processes, straw is treated merely as the agricultural waste that remains after grain or juice is extracted from crops. However, straw is a valuable resource that can be fashioned into disposable products like plates, take out containers, bowls etc.
With wheat straw, you know that you are choosing a product made from rapidly renewable and reclaimed material instead of trees or plastics. Best of all, at the end of its life, you can send to the commercial composting facility instead of the landfill.
By using wheat straw in our products, we are diverting material from the waste stream and using a reclaimed resource to make our pens.
